Building Face ID for Cattle: How Nitara Recognizes Individual Cows

Every cow on a dairy farm has a story — health history, lineage, productivity patterns — and tying that story to the right animal is harder than it sounds when ear tags fade, fall off, or get swapped. We trained a vision model to recognize individual cattle from facial and coat-pattern features alone, achieving over 97% accuracy across our test farms. In this post, we walk through the dataset, the model, and why this small breakthrough quietly unlocks dozens of features further down our roadmap.
